As we explored our decision of whether or not to have kids, we listened to a podcast that offered that if you decided to be child free, you’d need to take time to mourn and grieve the parent you would not see your partner become, and the grandparent your parents would not become. I’d already had a taste of what my parents were like as grandparents because of my nephews and niece, and that was something so special, I didn’t want to miss. The time has just begun with two visits so far, but August is so lucky to have these two on his side, reading him books, making him smile, taking the best care of his parents.
