HOUSE OF THE FALCON. In Winter 2023 @elledecor, our annual Escapes Issue, contributing editor @marellacaracciolo takes us on a jaunt to the Roman countryside, where Paola Igliori and her son, Filippo, turned a 1920s villa (constructed atop the remains of one built two centuries earlier), an 18th-century botanic garden, and a former falconer’s tower and farmhouse into a family retreat. Its colorful, idiosyncratically beautifully interiors were inspired by points of reference as varied as Villa Malaparte, the 1930s modernist masterpiece in Capri by Italian architect Adalberto Libera and the early 1900s home of American Symbolist painter and poet Elihu Vedder, also in the south of Italy. The result, though, feels far from a homework assignment. Instead, it has a real romance and ease—and what’s more of an Escape at home than that?
