Right before I started making my latest record Holy Shit, I decided to break in my new studio with a limited number of custom songs by request. These one-of-a-kind studio recordings ranged from old songs of my own that I hadn’t heard in years, to acoustic versions of my songs to be played at weddings, all the way to a handful of Sinatra covers, a Gaga song, and a pretty insane version of Journey’s Faithfully. There’s more than enough for an album in those files, and these recordings shaped the sound of Holy Shit- an integral, if invisible, part of the record. The experience inspired me to really play with my new space and develop the sonic dialect through which to speak my moment’s truth, and it was also a grateful gathering of financial support for a slower, quieter season spent diving down deep into the million piece puzzle of a record. So here I am feeling ready to make another record, in another house up the hill from the old one, yet again with @mikepoorman in my spare room helping to find the sound, and I’m opening up a limited number of custom songs for the holiday season.
