Remembering Issey Miyake💙 For Sorbet’s Pop Issue, stylist Karla Welch pulled a steel blue, plastic bustier from the archives of Fall/Winter 1980–81. Modeled on a torso, the iconic piece created a second skin that transitioned into a short peplum of fabric-like folds at the hips. The design was the work of revolutionary fashion designer Issey Miyake, and of course, it made the cover. This bustier is just one example of Miyake’s brilliance. The designer is often recognized for his pleats, his unexpected collaborations, and his experimental approach to fashion — creating looks from paper, metal, and plastic, embracing both traditional crafts and innovative technologies. Here, we look back at some of these groundbreaking designs in honor of Issey Miyake, who sadly passed away last week #isseymiyake
