Art Basel is almost here, a time when Miami transforms into a bustling mecca of art connoisseurs, exclusive parties, buzzy installations and general electricity in the air. While I won’t be in town for it (heading to Oaxaca for an artisan textile workshop), I have enjoyed Basel for many years. This art piece is one of my favorites, acquired at Basel some years back. It’s a work by Mexican artist Eduardo Terrazas, an architect by training. I was instantly attracted to the vibrant geometry of multicolored yarn wool on wax board. I love it so much- the harmony and beauty of the shapes, the artist’s modern adaptation of an indigenous craft technique and his underlying exploration of our human need to find rationality in a chaotic world. It brings the perfect pop of color to my living room, reminds me of my passion for textiles, and just makes me profoundly happy :)).
