When caring for orchids try to imagine their natural habitat, growing epiphytically on trees, in humid tropical rainforests. To grow them successfully indoors, orchids need bright light, but not direct sun. When you water your orchid, place pot in sink and run through warm water until it drains completely (rain water ideally). You will know if your orchid is thirsty as roots will appear silver, not green. Use a bark based orchid compost rather than houseplant compost and add an orchid fertiliser, to water, every two weeks from spring to autumn. I always used to struggle with orchids, but follow these simple steps for successful growth and a happy orchid like this one.
