We have likely all heard of the The Kāma-sūtra an ancient Sanskrit text on sexuality, eroticism and emotional fulfillment in life. It is that last piece that piqued my interest and made me think that we needed to do a hand engraved project with the Kama Sutra. Because contrary to popular opinion it is neither exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual but rather was written as a guide to the art of living well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, maintaining one's love life, and other aspects pertaining to the pleasure of living. Isn’t that beautiful? The way we choose what will become a special hand engraved project is rather haphazard if I am honest with you. I need to imagine a certain story telling quality that will be memorable and beautiful. Or funny. But touch you in some way. When I read a bit about the Kama Sutra that was it for me. So we made the largest Lock we have ever made with an accompanying chain and we had it hand engraved with images from that sacred text... the bodies yes but also the everyday items that existed alongside— the vessels, a piece of a rug, a bottle... What I love most about this piece is from a distance it looks like flowers intertwined and it’s only when you get up close to it you see what it actually is. Which is very perfect in this particular case I think. It’s marrying ancient with modern, functional with beautiful..... it also makes the most wonderful clunks—- solid..... almost like closing a car door(😂). We had to do the whole thing in 14k because 18k would have been unwearable... it’s that heavy. This piece will exist in our showroom as all these special pieces do until someone has to make it their own. I am however taking it to Paris with me next week because we are showing the collection there for the first time alone..... and well.... I’m bringing my Kama Sutra game 😂❤️ Anyway it is a Lock and chain celebrating life, love and happiness. Our biggest Lock ever. There are people who work with me right now who are wishing I waited — that I get it professionally shot and THEN share with you. But I told you...
