The new star of Sedgemoor! ⭐ Val Bannister took part in her local festival, playing piano from her front room to audiences who eagerly gathered on her doorstep to watch her perform. “I’m very keen on the idea of having live music, whether it’s a classical, popular, folk, anything. Live music is so much better than recorded. I was asked last year if I would do something and I thought why not? They said would I do something again this year and I thought, yeah that was fun.” @seedsedgemoor hosted their second Front Garden Music Festival this June, a free event which saw 4,500 people come out and enjoy more than 60 musicians performing as solo acts, duos, bands, string quartets and choirs in settings ranging from private gardens, parks and pub gardens through playing fields to National Trust gardens. Staged in several towns across the Somerset levels and moors, local creative people were given a platform to showcase their talents, alongside acts that travelled to the events. People across Sedgemoor, eager to see some live music, had the opportunity to come and experience it, right on their doorsteps. “I’ve lived in many parts of the country and moved down to Somerset 20 years ago when I retired, I was in a cottage in the nearby village. Its satisfying to be able to do something to give people a bit of a laugh" The festival was part of the #ACEsupported Creative People and Places programme, which provides communities with funding to choose, create and take part in creativity and culture in the local area. It focuses on parts of the country where involvement in creativity and culture is significantly below the national average. #CreateYourPlace 📸 Beni Evans.
