Saundra Steele ✝️ 1949- 2022 🕊 Today I pay my respects to the woman that gave me L I F E ... and then disowned me. ( Yes, you read that correctly) Sometimes our biggest adversaries are our greatest teachers. Indeed she taught me everything I know . She was a wonderful mother growing up, in fact I couldn’t ask for a better one. She taught me how “to do”, she was a multi talented master creative with her hands, a host with the most, and quite the entertainer. God bless her. She was a country music singer and gave up her career to be a devoted wife and mother. She influenced who I am now in so many ways and for that, I will be forever grateful. Somewhere along the way, after double knee replacement surgery and the sudden and tragic death of my father, she lost her moral compass and I never really got her back. Anyone who has a parent with mental illness, knows what I mean. At age 29, she disowned me. I still to this day don’t understand. It’s a miracle , I came out relatively unscathed. Thanks to art, plant medicines and a wonderful shaman, I found an outlet and a way to transmute all the pain and suffering that comes from experiencing the ultimate abandonment and betrayal . A lot of things broke my heart but cleared my vision. My art has always been an on-going process of turning the darkness into light, and now you have some context. Despite the unfortunate and unthinkable ending to the story, she is my mother .
