It’s such a huge honour to be invited by master exhibition-maker Judith Clark to participate in @homofaber, the extraordinary celebration of craft lead by #themichelangelofoundation. The Homo Faber exhibition that opens in Venice tomorrow is unique in its recognition that designers whose work celebrates craft, putting the skill of their collaborators front and centre of their story, have an important role to play in its survival. For fourteen years now I have had the privilege to work with @assatkamal and Bablu-ji in Jaipur on my meenakari and carved wood & stone collections, and watched their reputations grow internationally in their own right, as I named and promoted their excellence. I’m so proud to know how many other jewellers now work with them, and that customers reach out directly for their skill. Here in London, Theo Iannou and Jess Bates @cadmanjewellery and Stanislav Reymer @stanislawreymer continue to push boundaries for me in terms of what I’m asking from their talent and knowledge, as much as I seek ways to deploy their innovation in my vision. Alongside Sean Sims, Graham Fuller, Martin Baker and Peppi Taylor, these highly skilled individuals are the ones who between them make every piece - individuals who have dedicated their lives to their craft. In a world where understanding the importance of high skill, why we should value and pay for it, it’s wonderful to have such an important institution recognise a much wider group of people dedicated to mastercraft’s survival.
