The Process. This is the original “first draft” cover for “Living With A Seal”. If you swipe you’ll see the final cover. You can’t cheat creativity. You just keep iterating until it feels right. It’s a process. Don’t settle. The book journey for me was insane. Originally I was writing a memoir and SEAL was one chapter of the memoir. Then i realized, THIS is the book and I’ll add some of the memoir within it. #TheProcess. I shopped the book to 11 publishers...they all passed. I had 700 IG followers at the time. Finally, the 12th publisher...a small book company...signed me. I asked them how many book sales would be considered a “home run” for them. They said 36,000 copies. I immediately responded with “you need to order MORE books”. Living With A SEAL became a #1 bestseller and will likely hit 1 million copies sold. Sometimes it just takes one person to believe in you. Lessons: 1. Those 12 people that passed on me aren’t good at their job. Hahaha. Kidding...sort of. The reality is, sometimes the “experts” aren’t right. 2. Don’t stop at the first “no”. Keep going until you find YOUR yes. Sounds obvious but most “yes’s” are behind the “no’s”. 3. Don’t cheat the creative process.
