My dad came from very humble beginnings: poverty, a single mom who couldn't take care of him, and grew up at a time of fierce segregation. I think one of the things that bothered or even angered him most was people with titles, money or some status who belittled others. For my father, the truly important people were those who helped others understand how important (beautiful, worthy, deserving) others were. Yes, he pushed me to excel in school but real excellence he believed was seen in kindness, service, and your ability to elevate others, not yourself. Miss you dad. #CoryStories
