Out On A Stroll, on view Fri 10/28 - Sun 10/30, 10a-8p at @pier2air open to everyone, no appointments needed. Thank you for the photos @jocelyn_0120 ! About this work Part 2 (continuing from the previous post): But I did not know where I was to walk along. I watched the locals and followed along the undefined trails behind the vendor’s kitchens, then also in front of their storefronts. This way I made it to the beach, and picked up drifted beach plastics which are so fragile I must handle them gently otherwise they will crumble. In the parks I picked up the sword-shaped fibrous bean shells that looked like wooden sculptures. I grabbed utilitarian but to me uncommon objects, like neon orange hoses and netted green soap bags from the local hardware stores.
I also collected scenes and landscapes: moving LED signs fronting the ornate temples nestled among the residences, the confident sweeping contours of the ships at the harbors, the round stainless tanks, shining on top of the clustered buildings, reminding me of NY dim-sum restaurants’ steamers. I found the over-scaled seating - contemporary sculptures - right next to the huddling stores with century-old patinas, and observed the way things like cooking, eating and napping spill out of homes into public space. I talked to vendors. Mostly we didn't know what each other was saying, but at the end, we laughed, and I thought their jokes were funny. (To be continued...)
