STOP. STOP. STOP. How much more of Miami are we going to give away? Once again, the City of Miami is on the verge of handing over one of our most iconic community landmarks—the Tower Theater—this time to a private entity under the control of Miami-Dade College, backed by the newly elected city leadership. Let’s be clear: The Tower Theater is NOT just a building. It is the cultural heartbeat of Little Havana. Since the City of Miami took stewardship of the Tower Theater, we have seen a remarkable increase in community events and attendance. Families, seniors, artists, and youth have once again had an accessible space to gather, celebrate culture, and stay connected through film, music, and live programming. If this decision moves forward, another historic Miami treasure will be lost, just like so many others before it. We are formally calling on Mayor @elainehiggins and Commissioner @RolandoEscalona to pause, reevaluate, and rethink this action. This move will have a negative and lasting impact on our community and will strip residents of their right to enjoy one of Miami’s most beloved city icons. As a community activist and Chairman of the Unity International Foundation, I know firsthand how vital it is to preserve spaces that serve the people—not institutions. Our mission has always been to provide services, cultural access, and community outlets that strengthen residents and protect Miami’s identity. The Tower Theater has done exactly that for decades. Since 2023, we have seen a clear increase in events and community attendance, proving that when this space is protected and accessible, the community responds. CALL TO ACTION We invite the entire Miami community to stand with us at the January 8th City Commission Meeting to STOP this action from taking place. This is not politics. This is about heritage, access, and community rights. Miami is not for sale. Our culture is not disposable.
