Katahdin autumn morning glow - Piscataquis County, Maine My alarm went off at 4:15 am, and I wanted to press snooze, but adrenaline quickly took over. This shot is something I had planned for years. I had checked the weather forecast days prior, and it was forecasted to have upper-elevation snow on the mountain. Having pulled into the rest stop 3 hours earlier for a quick night's rest, I was excited to see what the conditions would be. Unfortunately, no snow but directly behind me was a low-level fog bank, and as the sun rose, it fought to break through. A pink haze lingered in the sky, and for one brief moment, the glow hit Katahdin's peak. The hazy conditions, cool crisp pink sky, and fall colors created a spectacular moment, even if it wasn't what I had in mind.
