This is what hormonal imbalance can feel like in my body. I have clinically documented extreme excess estrogen and it’s brought me many challenges in life. Some physical, like when I had 4 large ovarian cysts I had to have surgically removed in 2019 and earth shattering menstrual cramps every single month that threaten hospitalization. But I push through and most people (unless they are my closest friends and lover) wouldn’t know. I see doctors regularly; specialists as well. I get my blood drawn often to measure if any of the intense protocols (diet, excersize, meditation etc.) make any difference. Some months I feel like I’m making progress and I proclaim I’m healed!!! But the ones who know and love me most caution me not to get my hopes up as they know balancing hormones is not some straight and narrow steady inclining road, but rather one with days where you feel fantastic followed by gripping pain and manic depression. I’ve become sensitive to the physical sensations of what the more extremely unbalanced days can feel like in my body so I am aware of the reality that the emotions it produces are not just in my head. Being present enough with it to write it down in my journal helps me to create perspective and not to personally identify with the intense coming and goings of happy and sad feelings. I can tell now when my body is in extreme detox mode. I try to give myself space to feel these physical sensations and even give them names so I don’t just see it as ME. They are chemicals moving through me. I am not sorry for them. They are not a weakness. They are making me stronger with every wave I tune in to and learn to ride. Yesterday was one of those days where I could feel it so distinctfully in my body that I wanted to write it down and share it in a way I felt was true and beautiful. No one is perfect.
