We are not of nature, we are nature. A simple principle we can all encounter by hearing the internal call to take a walk outside, to go recharge away from a city, to reconnect with our toes in the sand and our hands touching plants and trees. The disconnect from such is omnipresent in our experience. So our conclusion is to say ‘we need to reconnect with nature!’ and create a spiritual life being a part of it.
But this resolution falls short.
We are experiencing a lack of oneness with Mother Earth, yes, but that is the symptom, not the cause. How much of mental distress are we experiencing on a daily basis because of the the societal circumstance we are in? How much of our human potential has to be used to make a living wage, find secure housing, how to get quality education or even healthcare? How many of us are occupied with surviving instead of living?
Reconnecting with nature has become a privilege of affordability. A privilege that is for the ones of us who don’t have to fear survival. Because only if we don’t have to struggle to survive, we can open our human potential and use it to create a higher evolved society that is able to act as one in equality of all basic needs met. Shelter, water, food and healthcare can be treated as a human right and not be based on affordability. If we demand a society that is not built on a predatory value system that creates poverty, but a system of safety for all, where survival is a priority and not a struggle of the individual, we will ALL thrive and prosper. New inspiration will lead to new innovation. Less distress will lead to more peace. Many mental struggles will disappear and we all will have more capacity to be one with all including nature around us.
How much is acceptable? How much do we tolerate our poorest to suffer for our own ‘good’, if we there is only all of us?
We have to shift our perspective away from the drowning towards the broken bridge. Let’s ask ourselves ‘How much adversity should resilient individuals have to endure before social arrangements, rather than individuals, are targeted for intervention?’
