THIS!!! let’s talk about.
the expectation for a curvier/plus size woman to always feel the need to over compensate to be accepted and deemed worthy goes far beyond the model industry. we see this in everyday life.
for example: living in a curvier body and wanted to be treated with respect and felt seen, we always have to go the extra mile. be the extra funny friend, be the extra nice person to everyone you come in contact with, be the extra sexy one when trying to get into a nightclub or bar for example.
this made me question everything... why do we always feel this need and pressure to have to over compensate, explain, etc, just to feel accepted and worthy.
i feel this all the time in my career. i have to go the extra mile to explain what i do, how i do CURVE modeling and how i’m an influencer that creates content around body positivity, self-confidence, and how to love yourself, etc. cause the second i just tell people i’m a model or influencer, they immediately look at me up and down in confusion.
“what kind of modeling do you do?” “or you the one shooting or actually modeling?” “oh what do you mean influencer? like what do you do?” ... it’s exhausting to always feel like we have to validate ourselves in this industry and society in general.
stop putting people in a box and just be kind to everyone. we don’t need to be classified into categories... one model looks completely different from another model.
for example: when someone tells me their a doctor, a teacher, an engineer, i don’t make them always validate themselves or over-explain how they’re qualified for that position. because i know that not every person in that career field will look and be the same???
just something i’ve been thinking of lately.. let me know your thoughts in the comments🙏🏼❤️
