As every ceramicist knows, there’s a lot of failure in the pottery process. At any one point along the lengthy journey of making a piece, from making to bisque firing to glazing - a whole host of things can go wrong. With this particular commission things went wrong three times. From the glaze overrunning (due to my original vertical shape) to the base splitting in no.2 due to a difference in clay shrinkage between the top half which is hand built and bottom which is thrown to the glaze cracking in the 3rd. Ugh! But I REALLY REALLY wanted to make this work. It was for a friend who has been slowly renovating her home with such care and beauty. I wanted this piece to shine in her new space. So I finally took the plunge and glazed no.4 with some new glazes (that’s normally a no no! But hey ho I was feeling feisty) and I’m so thrilled with the result as is @laura.fantacci who has been super patient with the process. I daren’t count the months it’s taken. But it’s here now in all It’s glory. #ceramics #handmade #comission #pottery #planter #dbceramic
