Posted @withrepost • @drchristiangregory Subjectivity cloaks racist mindsets and behavior. Groupthink or someone’s sense of what’s right is an opinion and opinions have no place or bearing on facts. A jury of one’s peers is rarely our peers. Who decides if an apology or an act of atonement is sufficient?
@therealdickgregory raised me to understand the profound difference between prejudice and racism. To prejudge someone doesn’t in itself impact their existence. Racism is almost always systemic and impacts law, policy, and procedure. It impacts one’s ability to participate fully in the American dream. There are daily, topical reminders of these practices. They’ve become so ingrained that even the victims barely recognize the practices.
Fairness and equality necessitate consistency and steady-handedness. The Black community routinely receives harsher treatment: policing, sentencing, and purchasing (red lining) the list is extensive and includes individual and corporate responses to perceived offenses. When civil penalties become excessive and exploitive they are abusive and may border on criminal. We have generations of data with a limitless capacity to now process it. The injustice is hidden in the cracks of our shared history.
The collective malignment and cure list are excessive! This moment should be a teachable one, not one that destroys and makes an example of. To stand with @kyrieirving is not taking a stand against Judaism. Cooler and wiser heads should prevail. #onelove #eachoneteachone
