This doll was lovingly stitched by my grandmother for my mother when she was just eleven years old. When it was presented, it’s unsettling presence overwhelmed and brought her to tears. On my last visit to their farm, I found it brought down from the attic, sitting watchfully on the porch, half guardian, half specter, waiting to either greet or unsettle those who passed by.
