The chamber opera "Lorry 39" by Ying Wang (CRF 2022) will premiere on October 9, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the Theater Freiburg in Breisgau, Germany. Following the Essex lorry deaths in 2019, where 39 migrants perished in a truck container in an industrial parking lot in the UK, Wang felt compelled to engage with the tragedy by composing this piece. The opera for ensemble and live electronics with the SWR Experimentalstudio will feature soprano Inga Schäfer, who visited and worked with Wang during her residency at Civitella.
