Hiking the Continental Divide Trail in 2019 changed my life in so many ways. For one, it introduced me to this funky resupply town in southwest New Mexico, Silver City. Last year, we lived and worked at the Triple Crown Hostel for a month to see if it’s a place we’d like to live. Now, we’re back trying to make a life here work for us. In the last week, I’ve started volunteering at the Silver City Museum, met the mayor, met with some real movers and shakers in town, looked at houses, and might have an exciting work opportunity coordinating one of the biggest festivals in Silver City. More than just a resupply town, Silver feels like one of the few places in this country where community is a priority and emphasized in every business, activity, and attitude. We’ve made new friends and connected with the locals in a way that feels shockingly genuine yet how it should be.
