Local Business appreciation post: on my way towards Flagstaff, Arizona I passed through majestic Oak Creek Canyon.... And heard wood-wind music coming from a clearing. I came across a market with local artisans selling hand-crafted Items. I stopped to look at some gorgeous jewellery, which is where I was lucky enough to meet Lyssa Bratz. I bought two pairs of her hand-crafted earrings and she told me a little about her journey as an artist and businesswoman; her family news, her studies and how her gift for making traditional Navajo Diné jewellery supports her studies. She generously shared with me her pride about being part of the Navajo Nation, or Diné, and I learned how to say ‘ahéhee’, or thank you, in the Diné language. Getting to meet so many people across America is such a beautiful eye-opener for learning the history of this incredible landscape; the distinct culture and proud heritage of these places where I’ve been a guest. Lyssa has a store online and ships abroad. You can see these gifts are beautifully made and carry personal stories, from the heart of the Southwest, where the Diné have a sacred relationship with the landscape. Thank you Lyssa for making my morning. I love seeing women take control of their narrative and getting a business going! Check Lyssa’s work over at @dazzled.in.hozho What will you order?
