Eruption over the Smoking Mountain
Closing out the summer with this image from one of the most memorable nights. After 4+ hours of driving from Seattle, Sonya and I hiked in darkness up to this viewpoint to set up our gear. The night included cowboy camping with frogs jumping and bees flying around our heads and witnessing what appeared to be a meteor shooting across the sky then exploding into a bright orange light.
Nights like this make me feel the most alive. I will always be in awe of the vastness of the night sky and just how many stars you can see when you’re out in the backcountry. This is my second year that I’ve ventured out to shoot a milky way timelapse project, and although I had hoped to capture a timelapse more than once this summer, I’m still thankful that I was able to share an evening under the stars with this beautiful mountain.
