Pt. 1: My Day With Elle Woods 🎀 As we say goodbye to the summer, I wanted to reflect on a special moment I didn't get to share with many. One of my negotiations for accepting Elle's understudy with Zilker's Legally Blonde was that I would need a dress/tech rehearsal. This role is one of the most challenging in MT and one of the most challenging experiences I knew I would face. I asked for this as a tool for success for myself and to be as prepared as possible in case I needed to be. There was no way our fearless leader @officialmeganhudson could ever falter, so thankfully, I was never needed to step in. A big plus in this experience for myself was getting to prove that curvy BIPOC girlys can be Elle Woods, too. We are smart, capable, hilarious, and love being women just as much as Elle Woods does. We love pink and we can go to Harvard. And we can be great at all of it. I think it's easy to look at someone and think they aren't capable of greatness because of our own biases on looks, and I really love to prove that mindset wrong every time I step on stage. (Seeing the West End production of Legally Blonde gets a lot of credit here) big shoutout to @jasonkruger for seeing this potential in me, and letting me share a bit of Elle's brains and shoes for a night. 👠 The love/support of this team in their entirety was otherworldly. From @stagemanageramy always making sure I knew I was supported every step of the way to @lizoxleydance, @tayrainbolt, and my special one on ones with my favorite person @mlmoss3 making sure I knew every step. Also, special thanks to our costume designers and stitchers, making sure this curvier girly could really feel like Elle Woods. That was so important and special to me you have no idea. Last but not least, you guys know how much I love @officialmeganhudson, but seriously... I love Megan Hudson. Sharing her with you was life changing. Being an understudy is like living your worst fears. It's literally like nightmares you have where you don't know the lines and have never gone through the blocking onstage, and you've never worn the costumes. Very empowering to dominate this feeling - and be great at it. More to come. ❤️
