I didn't expect to become a teacher. I've always been an eager student, and I guess that eventually fills you so full of knowledge that there's not much left to do but to share it. I've taught farming for 4 seasons now. This Fall will be my fifth cohort of gardeners, farmers, chefs, and home cooks who want to learn how to grow their own food. It's thrilling to see the many successes (and failures) of new growers, knowing that they have a deeper appreciation for their own intuition and connection with the soil. Growing our own food teaches us how to negotiate with the earth for a meal, and to respect the natural processes instead of trying to control them.
