Throughout my life I have been made to feel like my hair is a disappointment to people’s expectations, mainly due to my complexion. In the Caribbean, a person’s value increases due to their proximity to whiteness, we know this well. And from young, people always seemed disappointed that I didn’t have ‘Good hair.’ In 2022 if you still use that term to describe straight, or loosely curled hair - are you hearing yourself? Anywho, you name it I done it, constantly trying to un-disappoint people who thought I should fit into the ‘light skin good hair’ hot gyal-girl in every music video aesthetic - and I never quite hit the mark.
