Translating a tradition and making it FASHUN
My mother always used to say “being well dressed is knowing what to wear and when” I used to rebel with that notion and wear heels, sexy clothes, all colors and prints whenever and wherever I could ha!
But the older I get the more clear I understand the lessons from my truly elegant mother. Occasional dressing has always been part of my ethos. So it is no true wonder why I choose to follow my cultures tradition and wear white to dinner on a Friday night.
It’s a strong symbolic message of bringing and receiving LIGHT that in the last few years has really resonated ⭐️
Friday is a special time set apart from the week, we wear white to remind ourselves to be open to spirituality, joy, practice, and the beauty of resetting ourselves for the week ahead.
I feel like I am back home in TLV when I honor this tradition of wearing white on the Sabbath. For me it symbolizes my deep appreciation
for being alive, surrounded by love, history, and thanking g-d for the week that just passed...knowing that every moment is not taken for granted 😭🙏🏽 it has become the universal festive color for my important and high holidays! Where we drape the dining tables with white cloth, candles and enjoy togetherness while in white just feels so incredibly awesome!
Anyone out there resonate with wearing colors as a symbolic expression of a tradition? I remember growing up in china brides wore red and I loved that tradition so much I promised myself one day to have a wedding wearing red!
Now you know why we have a white lewk for every season 🌈
