As requested, part one of the new rental house tour! I’ll be covering the upstairs rooms next, but for now, this gives you an idea of what I’ve started with. It’s not tidy, I haven’t got makeup on, it’s going to take time. Last time we moved I was on a bonkers nesting spree and knowing I only had a couple of months until a baby was due galvanised me into a decor machine. This time, I’m calmer about it because I have to be. There is too much other sh*t going on for me to turn it around in a second, so it’s going to be a journey. We have signed a three year contract here and as part of my negotiation on rental price, I have agreed to complete a series of decoration tasks. The collaboration here between the landlords and me is much closer to what you would find on the continent (my dad lived in the same rental in Munich for 28 years and he even fitted parquet, so... 🤣). It’s something I really believe in, because the result is that you both get mutually agreed decor (understandably everything, down to colour etc, has to be signed off and there’s going to a fairly neutral palette) and the home feels more like yours. For the landlords, the benefits are obvious 😍 I also wrote a long cover letter in why I thought the landlords should pick our family to live here. For anyone who hasn’t rented in a while, this may sound off the wall, but it definitely helped us find out next ‘borrowed home’ as Grey terms it and we are so happy with how the chips finally fell ❤️
