Ten years ago today was one of the darkest days in our country. Twenty children and six educators were killed in their classrooms at Sandy Hook Elementary. As we mark this horrific day, I’m thinking of the families who’ve spent the past decade without their loved ones. I’m thinking of the children who would be 16 or 17 this year. Even as the nation grieved, our leaders failed to respond—but Americans took action. I said enough and founded @GiffordsCourage. When I visited Newtown ten years ago, I mourned with the families of Sandy Hook. We were united in our anger, our devastation, and our determination to turn our pain into purpose and to keep fighting, no matter what. Over the past ten years, we have done that. We owe it to all those whose hearts are heavier today and every day because of the devastation wrought by gun violence. I’m standing with you, and I will never stop fighting for you.
