The cold winds of fall are upon us. It’s time to wake our latest dark lager from its slumber in barrels: introducing our Baltic Porter! Baltic porter’s roots can be traced back to the late 1700s in Northern Europe and Scandinavia, when brewers of the area began adapting robust English porters and imperial stouts to their colder climate, using bottom fermenting lager yeast. More rich in malt and alcohol than traditional porter ales of the time, the Baltic porter became very popular in several countries along the Baltic Sea as well as in England. Munich malts play the base, with a thoughtful blend of crystal, chocolate and brown malts that delivers a big, complex and flavorful malty dark lager with restrained roasty notes. We lagered this one in @nashvillebarrelco 9 year rye barrels for a whopping 10 months, infusing the beer with flavors of chocolate, coffee, anise, caramel, vanilla and marzipan. Ours is a big one, clocking in at 9.1% ABV. Baltic Porter will be available on draft as well as in cans at our tasting room beginning this upcoming Wednesday, 10/19! We have a few more beers to be announced later this week- stay tuned! Our tasting room is returning to regular hours today, we’re open from 12-7pm with Kyle and Flip behind the bar.
