my parents have always put an emphasis on the importance of education. coming from afghanistan (from the Soviet Union’s invasion) & mexico, they constantly reiterated to me to take advantage of the educational opportunities that were in my grasp from a young age. i still vividly remember the sleepless nights as a middle schooler, constantly questioning to my parents why they needed me to work more diligently, harder, and smarter. these moments and the impression they left on me continued to help me navigate through the education system.
however, my parents never pushed away my passion for the arts- and as time went on, i found acting and theatre as that passion. my mother would literally spend HOURS trying to get my facepaint right on stage, or listening to me singing the same song for an audition several hours straight (her ears....). being able to take on the role of a storyteller and share with the audience some of my most intimate expressions and viewpoints is something that will forever fuel my drive as an artist. i hope to take my skills and improve upon them, so that one day i can use my medium as a means of change; sharing my father’s (and others like him) story, and other topics that need to be brought into the limelight.
with that being said, i am beyond excited to announce my commitment to UCLA’s school of Theater, Film, and Television with Acting as my academic major !!!!! i am forever grateful to everyone who has helped me get to this point, and i am so eager for what’s in store for the next four years. lastly, im just proud of myself tooooo cause heyyyy why not. go bruins !! 🐻💛💙
