Me and my editor David built this scene around three back-to-back-to-back versions of Joni Mitchell's "Blue" -- the centerpiece being Dre's "Song For You." @robloblahkop , who made the beat and produced it, worked tirelessly alongside Mac Wanda to help us get the rights and locate the instrumental (going as far as to try and recover Dre's laptop that had the original beat!). But because of complications beyond anybody's control, we weren't ultimately able to use it. A great what if...⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Version 2 – Mosseri Saves the Day. We built this entire sequence around Dre's track and were less than a week away from our Sundance premiere when we got the final confirmation we couldn't use it. In comes @emilemosseri . Under the fucking gun, he wrote a piece that ended up being one of my favorites in the entire film. His brilliance was the only thing that mended my broken Bay Area heart.
