I’ve been mia on this app (and in life) because I’ve been in Louisiana at my grandma’s house for the better part of a month. And last night she passed away. She was truly the matriarch of our family. She was kind to everyone and everyone who met her loved her. She was always so giving to me - even when she could no longer walk, she would ask me “can I get you anything sugar?” in her very cute southern accent. She also taught me how to love. She was married to my grandpa for 62 years, and when he became a paraplegic in 1991, she was his caretaker for the next 24 years. She taught me that love is unconditional, and that it means supporting your partner through thick and thin, and that sometimes that means changing a catheter. She loved antiques and pantsuits and brownies and coca-cola. She always had long red nails and big gold jewelry and was the kind of woman who got fully dressed and ready just to bring the trash cans to the street. She was quiet, and gentle, and never let herself be ruled by emotion. I am like her in countless ways and we always understood each other. I will miss her so much. Hug your loved ones tonight xx
