When the rain comes.... *Chetamon Wildfire 2022 First of all, the good news: Despite being informed that ATCO would not be able to reconnect the municipality to the grid for weeks to come, we have been reconnected. Energy through the transmission lines has been restored and the @municipalityofjasper and @parks.canada have begun inviting visitors back to Jasper. The services they offer, as well as those of the various businesses that are fortunate to call Jasper home are returning to normal. There may be a small curve with regards to bringing things up to speed, so I am sure they will all be very grateful to you for your patience if there is a little lag time with regards to the services provided. If your visit had to be cancelled and you have the flexibility to make it happen now, let me say.... Welcome! Or perhaps, welcome back! ⚡️💡🔌💡⚡️ As for the status of wildfire itself: The rain that we are experiencing in the town is significant. A downpour that would certainly dampen the fire’s ability to grow. What I don’t know is how much rain the eastern side of the park is receiving as I have yet to take a look. It does look like the same weather system from here but that area is typically a lot drier than town. It is lee side to most of our orographic precipitation the majority of which comes from the Pacific. At any rate, the fire has moved up and away from critical infrastructure and therefore currently of no more concern to the town of Jasper or community of Brûlé just east of the park. If it continues to burn in that direction, that’s not a bad thing. There’s a lot of old growth that needs to go in favour of the new growth that comes in after the weeding of the garden.
