Doctor, therapist, teacher, you name it. If these words come out of their mouth , I give you permission to find a new provider. Please hear my heart on this. There should not be a single person who EVER puts limitations on your child’s potential. I don’t care what their diagnosis is, a child should never be put in a box of abilities. PERIOD. I’ve seen it far too many times... ⚫️Brain scans that don’t match functional independence. ⚫️Diagnosis that don’t match perceived functional ability. ⚫️ Children who defy the odds stacked against them. This isn’t to say that I don’t have candid and realistic conversations with parents about where their child is at and what we need to work on. I never paint a romanticized picture of the situation. What I do prioritize though is painting a picture of HOPE. I tell families, this is where we are at, we are going to plan for the most difficult outcome, and we are going to pray/hope/work for the best outcome. Your child is fearfully and wonderfully made with a tremendous ability to make progress. Anyone who attempts to tell you otherwise doesn’t deserve the privilege of working with them. Politely shake their hand and walk away. There are far too many providers out there who will believe wholeheartedly in your child for you to waste your time on those who walk around throwing out hopeless statements. In case you need to hear this today... I believe in the opportunity for growth in your child and I will celebrate wildly with you when we see it happen ❤️ #specialneedsparenting #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsmom #specialneedskids #healthcareprofessional #healthcareprofessionals #healthcareworkers #childrenwithdisabilities #disabilityawareness
