I'm honoured to be nominated and selected by a panel of distinguished judges for @apollomagazine – The International Art Magazine's '40 Under 40' list, the ninth edition of the project and the first to focus on the Asia Pacific region since 2016. 'Much has changed over the last six years – the region is attracting increasing international attention as new art fairs bolster an already thriving gallery and museum scene. The 40 individuals and collectives celebrated here, all under the age of 40, are shaping the future of art, transforming how it is made, experienced, bought and sold in both local and global contexts. ' Among the ‘Thinkers’, the category that I was selected for, I recognise many dear colleagues, such as @xiaoyuxiaoyuxiaoyu @abhijantoto and @missumi , who, as visionary curators, academics and critics, continue to explore new ways of researching, producing and engaging Asian contemporary art in a global context. It is the young and aspiring community, including the thinkers, the artists, and the entrepreneurs, that encourages and fortifies the ever-shifting, ever-evolving movements and exchanges of ideas and creativity that we call art. Being listed by '40 Under 40' is not only a recognition of personal endeavour, but more so to shed light on communal efforts and trans-generational legacy of artistic practitioners (many of those remain invisible in the public eyes), and hopefully, by doing so, connecting the wider society to alternative thinking and critical reflections from some of the most brilliant minds in the art world, and vice versa. For me, my work has just begun to transform the UK's only non-profit contemporary art organisation that strives to promote artists of East and South East Asian (ESEA) heritage. I cannot do it without the support of my team, our trustees, advisors, the art and the ESEA community.
