If you’re planning a year filled with day trips to special places and are interested in art, we can help.
Artists have found inspiration at many of the places we care for, and here are just a few places you might like to add to your itinerary.
Around the garden at Mount Stewart, County Down, are many concrete, stone and topiary creations, including the Dodo Terrace. These artworks reveal the stories of Lady Londonderry, her husband, and their family and friends.

In a small gallery in Hawkshead, Cumbria, you can see Beatrix Potter's original artwork on display in a 17th-century house. It’s an excellent base for exploring the countryside that inspired Beatrix and many other artists, authors and poets.

Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire is known as the birthplace of photography, but it’s also where you’ll find detailed terracotta figures in the Great Hall. This figure of Diogenes searching for the truth is by Victor Alexander Sederbach and dates from 1755. You can also find a bust of a bull, crowned and sporting a ruffled shirt.

A la Ronde, Devon, is a quirky 18th-century, 16-sided house. It was the work of cousins Jane and Mary Parminter in the 1790s, and where their imagination ran wild. The shell gallery comprises intricate patterns and designs using as many as 25,000 shells.

Red House, London, was the iconic Arts and Crafts home of William and Jane Morris and the centre of the Pre-Raphaelite circle. It's the only house designed, built and lived in by William Morris and was a haven for artists.
