Let’s talk fabrics .. When I made peace with the fashion world and accepted that creating beauty and harmony in the world is not as shallow as I thought it was, the first challenge was - how do I create in alignment with my #1 value - care for our planet. After thorough research I realized that nothing is as sustainable as using the fabrics that already exist. And as I couldn’t stand the thought of having polyester on my skin, the second decision was to always use natural. With years of fabric hunting around the world, I found that there are many more aspects to sustainability - the durability of the fabric, how many times one will feel like wearing the piece, what will happen if the piece goes to waste etc... With all that, choosing the fabrics still remains highly intuitive and my preferences seem to transform in unison with the collective growth - all of us are choosing the fabric together, it is never just me - and it is an indescribably heart-opening feeling to see when the piece finds its owner.. “What you seek is seeking you” applies to all of creator-creation relationship and there’s existence of unity through and through - much before you lay your eyes on the specific item.. I believe this piece that you like would have not been created if it wasn’t for you. So.. we tend to lean toward linens, cottons and silks (that already exist) - for the proven qualities and relevance in all types of climates and settings... and the beauty, of course. But what is beauty without the inner beauty ? - for me, this applies to all things. This year I also have experimented with modal fabric, “The Vegan Silk” - production of which is verified by forest stewardship association (a tree is planted for every tree used) - continued in comments ...
