Mountaineering isn't just a sport to our pal and @patagonia_snow ambassador Caroline Gleich (@carolinegleich). It's a path to activism. In 2016, Caroline teamed up with photographer Meg Haywood Sullivan (@meg_haywoodsullivan) to retrace John Muir's trek to Lyell Glacier. The goal was to bring awareness to the dangers of these melting giants. Glaciers don't just keep rivers flowing and ecosystems thriving, they also provide drinking water to millions in the area. With Lyell and Maclure Glaciers in Yosemite rapidly thawing—they've reportedly lost about 80 percent of their surface area—Caroline and Meg documented their trip to sound the alarm on climate change. But in a place this amazing, it was also an opportunity to have a damn good time. Finding joy in activism helps keep us committed to the causes we love. Even the way we shop and care for our clothes can be a way to inspire change. Caring for our gear, repairing it so it lasts and passing it on when we’re done doesn’t just keep your gear going. It can lower your environmental impact and help protect the places we love, too. Link in bio for the curious.
