The housing of the 21st century should encourage social mixing! Our 2014 proposal for Folie Richter in Montpellier, France, developed an innovative approach to housing and quality of life, a Vertical Village suitable for all types of residents - young and old, families and students.⁠ ⁠ The design emulates the existing housing types common in Montpellier, combining them into a tower that preserves the intrinsic values of each: social, formal, relational. A series of neighbourhoods is imagined: patio homes, houses on the street, collective houses with communal areas and garden houses.⁠ ⁠ The developed program is a mix of activities; student halls, medium-, and high-price housing, all catering to a mixture of generations and social groups. Stacking these neighbourhoods with each other creates outdoor spaces, gardens, squares, and terraces.⁠ ⁠ The overall result is a vertical village.
