🗳Hello, it’s two weeks until the midterm elections and I’m about to go down the spiral of ‘round the clock election season get-out-the-vote and voter protection insanity for my job (and it’s an absolute joy and privilege to do it.) I’m leaving Stacey Abrams here to watch this space in the meantime and to remind everyone that it’s go time for all of us, not just for people who work on voter turnout and election protection. 🫖 Here’s the tea: Really smart, longtime organizers I know who fight for working and middle class people at very grassroots and very high levels of political power every day say they have never been more afraid for an election. These are the most important midterms of our lifetime. I’m not trying to scare you. They just are. I think they’re more important than the 2024 presidential bc if Trump Republicans win this year they will be poised to install Trump or worse in 2024, no matter what voters say that year. 2024 is now and if you live in a state with early voting, Election Day is already happening - it just ends on Nov. 8. 📣 If you have a voice, and everyone does, please use it — not to guilt anyone, which is not what I’m trying to do here, but to make voting a celebration, get people excited, let them know they are needed to make their voices heard at the ballot box, explain how crucial these midterms are, and to light a fire under their asses. The candidates you want to win really NEED you. They are not gonna pull it off by osmosis. 🔧Voting is a tool, not a cure, but this fragile, f***ed up experiment that’s only been a multiracial democracy for the last 60 years needs some major reinforcements, and we have to use every tool we’ve got to show up for each other because Trump Republicans want to take people’s rights and freedoms away, and call it all patriotism. Please vote early and get loud. I know you don’t want to be sitting around after Nov. 8, wondering where you were when the shit really hit the fan. Also, I’m especially talking to my fellow yt women.
