Well, this is a big moment for me... I’m incredibly honored to share an image from my first ever photo assignment, for the New York Times! It’s part of their new Witness series in the Sunday Opinion section, and you can see it in the print edition today! Earlier this month I spent a very hot weekend on the road in Oklahoma and Kansas talking to folks about how gas prices and inflation have affected their lives, and where they think the country is going. I want to thank @jmwender for trusting a total newbie with this opportunity and encouraging me to do my thing (the best direction a photographer can get) as well as @matteich for making the connection, @strange.victory for the last minute advice, and @wilsonherlong_ and all the folks at @sec_carrboro for their great work with my film. And all of the people I met who were so generous with their time and thoughts - and trusting of a random sweaty dude skulking around the gas pumps! I feel lucky that an aspect of American life that I’ve become so interested in photographing over the last year happens to be interesting to other people, and I’m super excited for this new door opening!
