On this Veterans Day, we’re honoring America’s first veterans. Over the last several months a team of archaeologists and forensic scientists have discovered and exhumed 14 soldiers at the Battle of Camden site in South Carolina. It was truly extraordinary to see this process and the care and respect that was given to these soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty nearly 250 years ago. Of the 14, 12 were likely Patriot Continental from Maryland or Delaware, 1 was likely a North Carolina loyalist and 1 served with the British 71st Regiment of Foot (Fraser’s Highlanders). This is a remarkable discovery and I was honored to photograph this for @natgeo and see the tremendous work by South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust, University of South Carolina, Historic Camden Foundation, SCDNR, SCIAA, and Richland County Coroners Office. Thank you @glstoney and @thewildstein for assisting
