#throwbackthursday🚨🚨 A past interview resurfaced of @jimjonescapo_ofiicial on the @earnyourleisure podcast inspired a bit of nostalgia today. How far we've come and yet how far we have to go in changing the perception of "us" even to us. Our business model was born out of a very simple idea...the money we spent on the apparel available to us should respect us enough to reflect both our styles AND our lifestyles. So we CREATED that. We didn't knock off shit. More than anything, we wanted to change exactly what Mr. Jones exemplified - the idea that because a product is branded by us, for us, it is somehow substandard or a mimic of some other brand. That mentality is counterproductive to the idea of "ballin". To say Harlem never supported @fubu is just plain silly.. Not only did a lot of his fellow counterparts show love, we generated millions in sales right in the neighborhood Jimmy loves with retailers Im sure he knew well... Jimmy Jazz, Dr Jays, Blue Jeans, Sammys Fashion etc. At our peak in 1998, FUBU grossed over $350 million in ANNUAL worldwide sales. Outselling famed historic brands and opening the door for an influx of urban fashion collections like Rocawear, Sean Jean, Enyce, and dozens of others..Vamp Life included. If we were selling music, we would have sold platinum singles over 300 times...a year. In recent years FUBU has established national licensees for men’s, women, suits and several other categories as well as distribution channels throughout USA, Europe, Asia, Africa the Middle East, South America and Central America not to mention @officialfuburadio @forusbyusnetwork and FUBU Commercial real estate projects under development. “For us, by us” reiterates not only our right to but our responsibility to provide for our community according to its standards, that we ARE and have always been good enough and no matter what opinions differ, we are proud of what we’ve accomplished and excited for whats to come. In the words of Jay -Z "For Every One Gucci, Support Two FUBU’s"...Lets keep that mindset!!! Shout outs to all the "Urban" brands that paved the way and still making moves!!
