Been a minute, and I have some new followers post- @bagelfest, so here I am. Hello! I’m Sarah. I started Phoenix Bakehouse in 2017 after witnessing, for five years, the dearth of good bread here in Astoria, Queens. The idea is that like a phoenix, a sourdough culture, and thus sourdough bread, rises from itself, over and over. I learned to bake grain-forward, slow-fermented sourdough in 2016, and have been working on my craft ever since. Took a nearly-three-year hiatus to raise my little sous chef, Sadie Pearl, full-time, but we’re back, offering weekly bakes that I drop at @honeyhouse.nyc. Pre-orders only. Maybe we’ll get back to some popups soon. Maybe, hopefully, with some bagels. I’m always learning, hopefully always growing, going with the flow of the dough and wild yeast’s beautiful whims.
