Thanks for all your support recently. It means so much. Impossible not to sound cheesy saying that but anyway I am cheesy. The re-issue of How to Stop Time is out now. It has a new chapter and lots of extra bits. I wrote it two years before The Midnight Library and it is about a man who looks like he fits in but is actually not fitting in at all as he has a condition called anageria (the reverse of a real condition called progeria where the body ages at warp speed) which means he ages really slowly and is 437 years old. It is as close as I have come to writing a love story. It is also a book about autism but I didn’t realise it at the time. It has some cringey moments I couldn’t resist. Like putting Shakespeare and Fitzgerald as characters in some chapters, which was a bit immature and obnoxious but also fun. But it has some more interesting historical figures like Omai, an 18th century celebrity from the Pacific islands who came to London with Captain Cook. It is a very sentimental book, even by my standards, and the most musical of my books. Every chapter is really a song. It is deeply imperfect. It was a nightmare to edit. It’s quite confused and impressionistic at times. It isn’t as funny as The Humans and it doesn’t quite have the fable-style simplicity of The Midnight Library but I think it contains my best writing. It is my most ‘proper’ book and it is the one where the character is most like me (ancient and miserable and awkward and out of place, with a capacity to say and do the wrong thing but also full of love). I realise this is a terrible sell. Anyway, we have five to give away as a thank you so if you want one please drop a comment below. Cheers.
