One of the best things we can do for the planet is consume less and get more use out of the stuff we already have. That means taking care of our clothing so it can last for a long time, and knowing what to do with it when we're ready to move on. (Hint: Someone else might be able to use it.) Here's how it works:
1. SHOP RESPONSIBLY
When you need to buy, look for clothing built for durability and longevity. Or better yet, buy those durable products used. Great gear is built to live on (and on) and keeping clothes in rotation is easier on the planet than buying new.
2. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR GEAR
Having a relationship with gear doesn’t just mean making memories in it. It also means repairing it when a rip, tear or hole happens, so your gear can last for years—maybe even generations.
3. PASS IT ON TO SOMEONE ELSE
At some point, you might be ready to go separate ways. Maybe you've outgrown it, moved to a different climate or traded singletracks for surf swells. But just because you're done doesn't mean your gear is. Pass it on to a friend or family member, donate it to a local nonprofit, or see if it's eligible to trade in to #WornWear. We’ll help pass it along, and you'll get Patagonia credit.
4. BEGIN AGAIN
OK, so you traded in your gear—high-five—and have some @Patagonia credit. Next time you need something, enjoy your credit and consider using it towards something else used. Because—say it with us—buying used helps lower our collective carbon footprint and reduces the resources needed to create new gear.
