Real things I’ve said in therapy sessions this week:
1️⃣ “That seems really difficult.”
You’re carrying a lot right now, and it’s okay to acknowledge that without trying to minimize it.
2️⃣ “You are a different version of you now. You are not going back there.”
Even if some old feelings come up, you’re approaching them with new tools, new insight, and a stronger sense of self.
3️⃣ “You’ve been in a similar place before and you got through it then, you will this time too.”
Let’s look at what helped you then—those strengths are still in you, even if they feel far away right now.
4️⃣ “You can’t control what she does, or doesn’t do. Let’s focus on what’s in your control.”
When we shift our energy toward what you can influence, you get to feel more empowered and grounded.
5️⃣ “It makes sense you are feeling that way given everything you are carrying.”
You’re not overreacting—you’re responding to stress, pain, or pressure in a very human way.
6️⃣ “Is that thought helping you move toward what you want, or keeping you stuck where you are?”
You get to choose whether to follow that thought or challenge it—it doesn’t have to be the truth just because it’s loud.
In this space, we acknowledge your struggles without judgment, honor your growth, focus on what’s within your control, and gently challenge the thoughts that keep you stuck—so you can move forward with more clarity, confidence, and compassion for yourself.
Which one(s) resonate with you? 1-6?
